Join us for an evening with Danny Caine in conversation with Ashley Hope Pérez! They'll be discussing Danny's latest book, How to Defend Books and Why, at 6:30pm on Monday, May 18th at Prologue Bookshop.
How to Defend Books and Why invites readers everywhere to the book revolution! Calling on his time as a public school teacher and bookseller, Caine emphasizes the importance of fighting censorship and empowering your community, and our collective responsibility towards art.
Danny Caine is the author most recently of How to Defend Books and Why, as well as Jewish American Dream, winner of the inaugural Sarabande Chapbook Prize. He’s also written four poetry collections as well as the books How to Protect Bookstores and Why and How to Resist Amazon and Why. His poetry has appeared in The Slowdown, LitHub, DIAGRAM, HAD, and Barrelhouse. He lives in Ohio.
Ashley Hope Pérez is a novelist, professor, and reader advocate. Her works include the critically acclaimed (and widely banned) novel Out of Darkness and the 2025 anthology Banned Together: Our Fight for Readers’ Rights. Ashley is an associate professor in the Department of Comparative Studies at The Ohio State University, where she directs the Unite to Read Project with funding from the Mellon Foundation.
